It’s never too late

Eleven years ago I came up with the idea and launched The Write Press Company based on the vision I saw happening with the convergence of traditional publishers and the necessity of authors to market their own books.

Eleven years I kept the domain name active and the vision alive. Now independent publishing companies are almost considered main stream. Digital publishing has come onto the scene making it even easier for authors to publish their stories. Still, not every author has the desire, skill, or time to develop the marketing plan, let alone execute it. Plus, why would authors put their heart and soul into a work only to sell it going the traditional route for peanuts and giveaway royalties? Independent publishing allows authors to keep control of their royalties and profits.

As an entrepreneur, I rely on my own efforts and abilities to get the job done not on outside forces and I want to share my passion with authors who also want to reap the rewards of their efforts and abilities.

Life is messy. Events happen beyond our control and we adapt for the most part. For me, I launched this publishing company at the right time professionally and technologically but personally it was the worst time possible. I was married at the time and we were in the middle of building a custom home in the Rocky Mountains performing most of the construction work as possible (I call it “tears, blood, and sweat” equity) and my then-husband and daughter were commuting 64 miles one way to school and work when I launched the business. Nothing went according to plan as we quickly learned cutting our teeth in the construction business.

It was the snowiest winter in a very long time and I spent my days shoveling snow out the window openings before the roof and windows were completed on our frame. Every day demanded something new of me or my former spouse, and finally I had to take over and become the general contractor for the project even while I was maintaining clients in my marketing business, The Word Tailor and having a stellar year. Talk about on-the-job (OTJ) training! But that’s another story.

With subcontractors consistently not showing up and hounding the mortgage company for draws that were late (we were experiencing the housing and financial crisis before it was public information there was a funding problem), my time became more and more focused on the construction of the house so our family would have a home to live in and believe me we needed it sooner than later. This business went to the proverbial “back burner”.

Fast forward eleven years, someone else is enjoying the fruits of our labors in that beautiful custom home we successfully built; my daughter is on her own; and her father and I have gone separate directions as well. The one thing that remains the same however is my unending desire to provide a great service to authors who need help getting their stories preserved. Voila, The Write Press Company re-enters the independent publishing market to help authors steer the course of publishing in a time where marketing is more important than ever for successful book sales.
